Bay Area’s new crop of cookbooks

I’m here with a quick Monday post to get your taste buds prepped for the week.  The SF Chronicle has just written a great article on the new cookbooks from local authors that have recently been published with excerpts of some of the Chronicle testers’ favorite recipes. Warm and crusty date pudding from Tyler Florence’s newest cookbook, “Family Meal,” will have to be tried!

Although, I’m a little concerned about William Sonoma‘s new, huge compendium, “Unlike today’s food-star cookbooks filled with glossy, provocative photos of the author (and often his or her family, friends, pets, fancy kitchen, obligatory vineyard), and sexy shots of the food, “Cooking at Home” is old school.  No pictures.  No food porn.  No gloss.”  Yikes!  Give me my food porn or give me death. Friday Night Dinner: What to do with that french country loaf

I’m here with just a quick post on a recipe I really enjoyed.  There was a loaf of 2-day old french country bread sitting on my counter.  What to do . . . what to do . . . aaaah, savory bread pudding.  I was seeking a recipe that used asparagus and sourdough bread and I happened upon a recipe for Savory Asparagus Bread Pudding from  Her recipes tend to veer towards the overly vegetarian-healthy side so I adjusted it and it turned out delicious!   Click here for the recipe.
